Perceived Export Performance: A Contingent Measurement Approach

Despite considerable research on export performance, relatively little scholarly attention has been devoted to incorporating managers’ perspectives into operationalizing this concept. This study proposes a new approach for measuring small and medium-sized enterprises’ performance in the presence of multiple, potentially conflicting, goals while accounting different approaches assessing performance. Adopting contingency approach, authors develop two customized measures perceived performance: individualized framework simplified model. They demonstrate application both with sample 78 exporting medium enterprises New Zealand compare outcomes. The proposed frameworks are intended measure considering specific priorities by manager- firm-specific differences types importance goals, indicators, benchmarks. article extends understanding proposing more nuanced holistic measurement that is tailored individual firms reflects idiosyncrasies.
